are confident the gunman acted alone. >> reporter: james holmes was arrested peacefully. >> police officers found thegonman in the back -- the gunman in the back of the theater. >> reporter: he was carrying a one ar-15, a remington 870 shotgun and two 40-caliber glock handguns. >> wearing the full armor. arm pads and leg pads. >> a helmet, a vest, tactical. places to put all kinds of gear and clips and it was bullet proof. >> reporter: police got a surprise. >> he had his hair painted red. he said he was the joker. >> reporter: in fact, some of the people in the theater believed he was part of the show. >> it was during a shoot out scene. >> reporter: he bought a

ticket, left through an emergency door and properred itope -- propped it open and came back and opened fire. >> no one could see anything. >> i was terrified. i dove into the aisle and he started shooting people behind me. >> there was this one guy on all four crawling, there was a girl spitting up blood. >> i just got out and there was a moment where my daughter tripped tripped and i was dragging her. >> reporter: police responded almost immediately. >> reports of victims. >> no rescue. >> load them up. get them out of here. notify the hospitals. >> reporter: as the victims filled the emergency rooms police turned their attention to the suspect's apartment and found it booby trapped.

gathering information. james holmes, 24 years old, quiet, responsible but awkward. went to high school in san diego. he moved to colorado where he lived alone. police say he bought four gones at local shops and purchased -- guns at local shops and purchased 6,000 rounds of ammunition. >> reporter: no signs james holmes was capable of such a heinous act of violence. a good kid, smart student, kept to himself. >> the conversations were very short. he is somebody you wouldn't look at twice. >> reporter: after high school he attended the university of california riverside. graduating with high honors in 2010. then he moved to colorado to pursue his ph.d. at the university of colorado. james holmes began the process of withdrawing from that

program recently. lived in a one bedroom that was left booby trapped. once news of the shooting broke the suspect's mother told abc news from her home in san diego you have the right person. i need to call the police. i need to fly out to colorado. his father flew to colorado today and said nothing to reporters. his family released this statement it read our hearts go out to those involves in the tragedy and the friends of those involved. we are trying to process this information and appreciate the people will respect our privacy. >> reporter: tonight investigators are analyzing this profile on the sex website adult friend finder. the individual claims to be james holmes. it was created earlier this month and as you can see the guy here has red hair like the

this just in. a man in his 20s was shot and killed in san francisco at 9:00 p.m. officers responded to a shooting. and they found a victim who was shot several times. he was taken to san francisco general where he died. no suspects are in custody. after several weeks of falling gas prices they are going up again. prices are up 11 cents in the last three weeks. the average $3.45 a gallon. 30 cents more in california and san francisco tops prices in

suspended san francisco sheriff ross mirkarimi and his wife ellana lopez have been reunited. she was questioned for three hours last night. her second night of testify before the ethic's commission. ross mirkarimi is fighting to get his job back. he pleaded guilty in a domestic violence case. after the ruling the couple talked about the future. >> reporter: how do you feel? kron 4's rob fladeboe has more on the sighting. >> reporter: the guy in the hat on the left knew about the shark sighting here at the beach but decided to go into the water anyway. >> i look at it like you leave them alone they will leave you alone. >> reporter: they can't help but notice the shark warnings like this one posted. he was patrolling the beaches friday says the possible presence of a shark is another reason to remind people go in at their own risk. >> definitely something that is on our radar, especially with the attack a couple weeks ago. all the life guards we have out there are keeping an extra eye out. we look for them anyway. >> reporter: the great white shark was seen in 30 feet of water at the end of the peer.
